What is needle felting?

Needle felting is the art of entangling unspun wool with a barbed needle to create the desired shapes. It is a slow meditative process. Even the simplest of pieces can take many hours. Each piece is handcrafted using high-quality wool and careful construction. Larger pieces have an armature of wire to help hold their shape. I use several photo references for each piece, studying proportion, colour and expression. All profits from sales, commissions and classes is donated to animal rescue and rehabilitation organizations.

What I make

  • Custom pet sculptures: realistic or stylized portraits of dogs, cats, rabbits, and other animals.

  • Manitoba wildlife: species such as foxes, raccoons, owls and blue jays.

  • One-of-a-kind pieces for seasonal decoration or everyday enjoyment. Needle felted items are not intended to be toys, and care should be taken to keep pieces out of reach of young children and pets.

Commission information

  • Commission spots open occasionally. To inquire please get in touch with your preference of style. A couple of photos are needed to approve a commission.

  • Typical turnaround depends on complexity and current queue; expect several weeks to a few months for completion.

  • Pricing varies by size, detail, and complexity. A downpayment will be required to secure your spot.

  • Buyers receive a unique, handcrafted sculpture while directly supporting animal welfare.

Needle Felting Commissions

Face Ornaments (3.5-4 inches) $75.00

  • Focused on head and expression, face ornaments capture the essence of a dog through eyes, muzzle shape, ear set and facial markings.

  • Espressiveness: eyes, brow furrows, and mouth details communicate mood and personality.

  • Made as hanging ornaments, they are perfect when you want a compact keepsake or gift. Ribbon colour and charm can be selected.

Minis (3-3.5 inches tall) $55.00

  • Full-body miniatures. With firmly felted little bodies but no legs, these little guys are meant to capture facial form and features. Tiny accessories complete the look.

  • They convey personality through proportions, ear placement, tail carriage, and subtle colour markings

  • Display options: Shelves, shadow boxes, or as part of dioramas. Minis can be handled gently but are best for display due to delicate elements.

Thread-jointed dogs (5-6 inches sitting) $150.00

teddy-bear-style sculptures with gently poseable limbs.

  • While more cartoon like than other styles, these sculptures are still intended to capture the expression and personality of the real dogs.

  • Legs are attached with strong thread. They can sit or stand, and are perfect little companions to display on a bookshelf.

Thread-jointed dogs blend the charm of teddy-bear forms with the personality of real dogs. The result is a delightful compromise: sculptures that are both adorable and convincingly dog-like. While whimsical, every effort will be made to make the sculpture an endearing portrait of the real subject.

Little dogs (4-5 inches sitting) $150.00

These sculptures are an affordable way to have your pet memorialized in wool. I take care to use wool that imitates the look of the dog's hair. Proportion and expression are the focus.

I concentrate on capturing the correct head and body proportions and the facial expression that made your pet unique.

Because of their size, these sculptures are simplified rather than anatomically exact. Small features like individual toes and teeth aren’t included, but overall markings and colour patches are included. The result is a stylized, recognizable likeness that conveys personality and warmth.

Larger needle felted dogs (7-8 inches sitting) $325.00

With more room for detail, larger sculptures allow for a slightly more realism.

  • more detailed feet as shown on the first dog, Bird

  • teeth as needed, shown on Lulu’s sweet grin

  • spots or other markings, as shown on Milo
